چکیده

Abstract New first and 1.5 generation seed orchards are to be created in Germany based on recently assembled breeding populations of Acer pseudoplatanus , Larix sp., Picea abies Pinus sylvestris Pseudotsuga menziesii Quercus sp. To justify the high expenses time cost for orchard establishment maintenance, planning should make use consolidated knowledge experience both national international scientific community. Here, we briefly describe advances genetic gains achieved through tree breeding, resume population aspects design considerations draw conclusions clonal composition spatial new orchards. We conclude that avoid outbreeding depression separate required each zone. The zones species-specific defined by ecological climatic aspects. A minimum 60-80 clones per is recommended native species with proportions natural regeneration forest practice. This would allow future selective thinning estimated values from progeny testing. It also permit transfer progenies into a naturally regenerating stands without risk bottleneck. Lower clone numbers appropriate non-native hybrids. important strictly inbreeding depression, using only one or population, which plus trees were selected. Further, layout promote random mating optimizing neighbourhood clone. With all these taken account, expect superior quality traits at least 10-15 % more volume

Pollen contamination trends in a maturing Douglas-fir seed orchard

Pollen contamination was investigated in one block (block 4) of a 10-block Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii (Mirb.) Franco) seed orchard complex in western Oregon. Blocks (25 clones each) represent different breeding zones; thus, contaminant pollen sources not only included the adjacent natural stand of Douglas-fir, but also other blocks within the orchard complex. Stored seed lots from five ...

Pollen management for intensive seed orchard production.

Artificially increasing pollen supply (supplemental mass pollination (SMP)) to conifer seed orchards has the potential to increase seed yields and improve the genetic worth of seed crops that would otherwise suffer from the detrimental effects of pollen contamination and unbalanced paternal contribution. However, success rates, measured as the proportion of seed fertilized by SMP, have been low...

Maize seed production communities in hills towards a new path of contract seed production in Nepal

Seed production of farmers preferred improved maize varieties under community based seed production(CBSP) group initiated in the hills of Nepal under Hill Maize Research Project in 2000. Trained members of the community group produce improved seeds identified through participatory varietal selection procedures. Despite quantum jump in maize seed production, 14 tons by 7 CBSP groups in 2000 to 1...
